Norman Lloyd's Works Part 2 Norman Lloyd's style in painting changed significantly during his long career of over 40 years - from his early traditional works influenced by Julian Ashton (whose school he attended after returning from World War I), to his works referencing French impressionism in the mid to late 1920s and then showing the flair of the fluid British modernist school from the 1930s on. "The Sydney Morning Herald's critic commented on his change in style: 'The oil paintings which the young Australian artist exhibited at the Macquarie Galleries about three years ago were very conventional. They revealed no imagination, and were merely attractive colour arrangements transcribed from nature. The exhibition he is opening today stands on a different plane altogether. It is the work of a man who has studied the methods of the various schools, not superficially, but earnestly and practically so as to assimilate these methods into his own style.'"
